Big-spending La Liga giants Real Madrid have agreed a fee, believed to be #30-million, with Liverpool to sign Spain midfielder Xabi Alonso.
Real have been chasing the signature of 27-year-old Alonso all summer, and it now appears they have finally got their man.
The deal is now subject to Alonso passing a medical on Wednesday, and a statement on Liverpool's website read: "The terms of the deal will remain confidential and undisclosed."
The Spanish giants have already splashed out world-record transfer fees to lure Brazil star Kaka and Portugal winger Cristiano Ronaldo to the Bernebeu, and now Alonso is the latest member of the new 'Galacticos'.
Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez has not wasted any time replacing Alonso at Anfield, with the Reds believed to be closing in on the signing of Juventus midfielder Christian Poulsen.
Juve are open to the sale of the Denmark international and a number of sides have been linked with an interest in his services.
Premier League duo Fulham and Everton are among those clubs said to be admirers of the 29-year-old.
But Benitez's Reds are in pole position to secure Poulsen's signature.
