Ajax star prefers night

Veteran Ajax Cape Town defender and captain Brett Evans says that night games will produce more entertaining football for local fans.
"I like playing at night and I think the games are more enjoyable and entertaining for fans," the 26-year old said and then added, "I know of many players who enjoy night games more than day games so it would make sense to play in the evenings.
"The heat does stifle our performance and it's not an excuse. Both teams have to play on the same pitch in the same conditions and trust me, it affects both sets of players," claimed Evans, who is in his 10th season with the Cape club.
The left-footer, known for his accuracy from set-pieces, noted that Rustenburg and Thohoyandou are the hottest places to play in while his experiences in African club competitions were a tad bit more smouldering.
Temperatures have already reached 38 degrees in the Northern Province while Cape Town has had highs of 33.
"I'd say Thohoyandou is one of the hottest places to play in at home while anywhere north of South Africa is even hotter. It (the heat) really drains you and you have to check yourself so as not to get too tired and the quality of football suffers.
"We train in the heat but Cape Town is not as hot as up north, and even though we prepare to play in the heat, on match day it's another story when you're competing for a win."
Ajax kicks off this year's fixtures in a derby against city rivals Santos at the Athlone Stadium Wednesday night and the skipper again reiterated his wish to play more night games.
"I definitely think night games are the way to go. I think most players will agree with me when I say we prefer to play under the floodlights.
"If stadiums are equipped with the necessary floodlights then I don't see why games should not be moved to 7pm or later. It will make a difference."
Ajax play their 14th game of the season Wednesday night and will only start the second half of the Absa Premiership league when they travel to Kwazulu-Natal to take on Maritzburg United on January 17.
