Rain has washed out the most of Saturday play at the US Open, pushing the women's final to Sunday and forcing the first Monday finish for the men's championship since 1987.

Showers from Tropical Storm Hanna postponed the women's championship match between Serbian second seed Jelena Jankovic and US fourth seed Serena Williams from Saturday night to Sunday night.

The storm also forced the postponement until 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon (2000 GMT) of the completion of the men's semi-final between British sixth seed Andy Murray and world number one Rafael Nadal of Spain.

Murray led 6-2, 7-6 (7/5), 2-3 when the rains came.

The Murray-Nadal winner will meet four-time defending champion Roger Federer in the final at 5 p.m (2100 GMT) on Monday.

Not since 1987 has the US Open been extended to a Monday finish. In that year, Ivan Lendl defeated Mats Wilander in a Monday final.

Martina Navratilova completed a treble on that same Monday by winning the women's and mixed doubles crowns after taking the women's singles title on the previous Saturday.
