Russian Nadia Petrova, stung by US teenager Melanie Oudin in the fourth round of the US Open, continued her rebound on Wednesday by reaching the quarterfinals of the WTA Bell Challenge.

Petrova, the top seed and defending champion in the $220 000 tournament, beat Madison Brengle 6-3, 6-2 in 69 minutes, belting 10 aces past the 19-year-old American in their second-round clash.

It was the second quick win in as many days for Petrova, who steamrolled American Carly Gullickson 6-2, 6-0 in the first round on Tuesday.

In the quarterfinals Petrova will face fifth-seeded Hungarian Melinda Czink, a 6-4, 6-3 winner over France's Severine Bremond Beltrame.

Russia's Alla Kudryavtseva upset sixth-seeded American Jill Craybas 7-5, 6-2 and awaits the winner of Thursday's match between third-seeded home hope Aleksandra Wozniak and Russia Regina Kulikova.

Eighth-seeded German Julia Goerges punched her quarterfinal ticket at the expense of another Canadian, downing wild card Rebecca Marino 6-2, 6-3.

Thursday's second-round matches will also include last year's runner-up, Bethanie Mattek-Sands, taking on fellow American Vania King.
