Having gone through World Cup qualifying rounds with a perfect record, the reigning European champions are most certainly one of the favourites to lift the biggest prize in world football. With the talent at their disposal, it's a bit of a conundrum as to why Spain has struggled to translate its potential into silverware.
The winning mentality is there, as the squad is largely the same one that beat Germany in the European Championships final in 2008.
A large majority of the squad have also tasted success at club level, most recently with Barcelona and in previous seasons with Real Madrid and a few with Liverpool.
The Spanish have become masters of the passing game and have based their recent success on their ability to pass their way around their opponents.
The squad is loaded with stars in every position and the depth of talent runs deep. Those that don't make the starting lineup are ready to step in and perform to the highest level.
Coach: Vicente Del Bosque
Del Bosque took over as coach after Luis Aragones stepped down following Spain's triumph in the Euro 2008. It is his first job as an international manager but the Spaniard was immensely successful at club level, leading Real Madrid's Galacticos to league and European titles. Del Bosque has largely kept Aragones' squad and style of play intact.
Captain: Iker Casillas
At 28 years-old, the Real Madrid stopper could be considered a veteran campaigner, having already featured at the 2002 and 2006 World Cups. Despite being the side's last line of defense, Casillas leads by example and not afraid to put his body on the line.
Star Players: Andres Iniesta, Xavi Hernandez, David Villa, Fernando Torres
